As a person who has had semis purposely tailgate me on the 401, I say this. Semis should never tailgate and always leave about 100M in space for every $1M worth of cargo they are hauling. Typically takes a fully loaded semi about 160M (525ft) to come to a stop when travelling at HWY speeds. They can’t stop on a dime and should always put safety ahead of timelines. This is what owner of the company that cleans up after highway accidents teaches in his trucking safety course. The above situation would never happen if the semi driver left a safe distance. That said, a semi will always win against an SUV, we all need to drive safely and respect others on the road.
